December 2 1935 - Notable Passengers
The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. V. R. Lovegrove, concluded a Pacific crossing upon reaching Vancouver on December 2nd 1935. On the North Pacific the ship encountered heavy weather that resulted in Victoria being reached several hours behind schedule. Some passengers disembarked at Victoria, and mail, 200 tons of general cargo and 3,000 bundles of Japanese mandarin oranges were discharged.
The ship was also late in arriving at Vancouver because of dense fog in English Bay. At Vancouver some 100 passengers disembarked.
To assist passengers in making East Coast connections with Atlantic sailings a special train was dispatched with passengers, mail and baggage.
The cargo discharged at Vancouver included including 30,000 bundles of Japanese mandarin oranges.
