August 22 1935 - Notable Passengers

The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by A. V. R. Lovegrove, began a Pacific crossing upon sailing from Vancouver on August 22nd, 1935. On this voyage the ship would reach the Far East by way of Hawaii.
A total of 425 passengers in all classes were aboard and 101 were bound for Honolulu.
Travelling to Hawaii was a group of
Canadian Pacific employees and pensioners participating in a Company social
event.  This group would return to
Victoria on September 6 aboard the Canadian-Australasian liner NIAGARA. 
Sir
Frederick Leith-Ross, Chief Economic advisor to the British Government led a
party to the Far East on a diplomatic mission reported to be aimed at reviving
British influence in the Orient.
At Victoria the EMPRESS OF ASIA loaded
100 tons of citrus fruits and vegetables from the Holland-Amerika ship DRECHTDYK.
