September 18 1937 - Notable Passengers
![]()
The EMPRESS OF ASIA, commanded by George Goold, began a Pacific crossing upon sailing from Vancouver on September 18th, 1937. The ship had accomplished a quick turnaround from the previous voyage, sailing from Vancouver only a week after arriving. The quick turnaround however, delayed the departure from Vancouver and the ship arrived at Victoria behind schedule. A small passenger list was reported; attributed to the fact that the expanding Sino-Japanese conflict was discouraging travel to the Far East.
Passengers included a group of missionaries that had 5 priests en route to Manila and seven priests and four sisters en route to Kobe.
